In every day, there are 1,440 minutes. That means we have 1,440 daily opportunities to make a positive impact. – Les Brown
Any habit begins on the day you decide that you want to bring a positive change in your life. Our life is made up of such days. Every day plays a significant role in our whole life. Each day brings us new hope and opportunity to bring changes that can positively impact our lives. However, having big ambitions can be daunting at times. So, start one day at a time and make these 13 life-changing habits a part of your daily ritual step by step.
- Create a morning ritual:
A good start of the day ensures positive energy throughout the day. If you think your coffee is already doing that job perfectly, think again. It’s a delusion that caffeine will turn you into a fully functional person and carry you till the end of the day.
You can take a cue from the lives of other people. There are various habits practiced by exceptionally successful people from which you can derive inspiration. You can try them while establishing your daily morning routine. It is imperative to have a structured start of the day. So, plan your entire day in the morning, which will help you streamline everything, and you can prevent rushing things. Planning ahead will also help in reducing mental fatigue, eliminate stress, and enhance your productivity. - Take a walk:
Walking is undoubtedly one of the best exercises. It is also physiologically therapeutic. Walking clears the mind and develops concentration. Always try to walk outdoors, and while walking enjoys the sounds of nature and the view around. If you are busy, then take a walking meeting, or you can walk and talk over the phone. Whatever you do, get off the door and walk. - Finish the priority work first:
Most of us waste precious time of the day doing multiple tasks and end up not finishing any of them. You need to direct your attention and cognitive focus towards the work where the real progress is made. This will help you in maximizing your productivity. Finish your priority tasks first; after that, you can direct your concentration towards other activities. - Read as much as possible:
Successful people like Warren Buffet and Mark Cuban agree that reading is the key to their success. Reading improves focus and has a calming effect on your mind. Whether you choose fiction or non-fiction, both have equally positive impacts. However, reading non-fiction books helps broaden our horizons and develop new ideas and a different perspective. - Stop Multitasking:
It is a proven fact that only 2% of people can multitask successfully. It is well-understood that sometimes multitasking is the only option, and to a certain level, it is also acceptable. However, desperately trying to juggle between multiple tasks is not advisable at all. Everyday multitasking contributes to mental clutter and makes it harder for your brain to filter out irrelevant information. Multitasking is a tough habit to break. You can create a to-do list and go step by step. Or you can take it to the next level, where you can even hide the list somewhere and look for the next task once the first one is complete. - Be appreciative:
We are all a part of a big rat race here. That is why we often end up overlooking many good things around us. You don’t have to save your appreciation for the big things in life. The habit of gratefulness or gratitude begins when we start appreciating all the good things around us and recognizing that nothing is too small for you to be thankful. Practicing gratitude bring multitude level of benefits in once life. It is one of the best ways to create positivity and reduce stress. You can start small, for example, thanking your milkman for delivering milk early that day. The more you start appreciating little things in life, the happier you will be. - One act of kindness a day:
Each day, every human gets a chance of showing kindness. It can be at your workplace, at home or on the street. The act of kindness will make you feel better about yourself. All you need is to treat people around you with respect and compassion. Sounds difficult? How about a simple smile? Smiles are often contagious, and your smile can make someone’s day. So spread smiles and kindness and be sure that the universe will give all that back to you when you are in need for some kindness. - Quiet time for yourself:
Take some time off daily, even if it is for 30 mins. Some quiet time can help you unwind and can help in improving your mood and mental health. Do the things that you love to do and help you relax. For example, listening to music, learning a new skill, cooking, gardening the list is endless here.
- Make time for Exercise:
Exercise is the most transforming thing that you can do for your brain today. A single session of workout can help increase the level of neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine. Studies have shown that exercise helps improve our focus and attention. We are not saying that you have to become a triathlete, but rules are simple here 2-3 times a week for at least 30 mins. Bringing exercise in your life will not only give you a happier life today, but it will also protect your brain from many incurable diseases such as dementia and Alzheimer. - Take a Social Media Detox:
It is a sad fact of today’s life that we are more in touch with our virtual friends than the real ones. The virtual world has taken over almost all aspects of our life. We eat, dress, travel even love according to social media. According to some researchers if you spend a lot of time on social media sites, then you are more likely to develop depression. Scrolling down on your phone is one of the worst bed-time habits of millions today. It not only affects your sleep but has terrible effects on our brain. Switch off your phone and laptop from time to time and reconnect with the world around. - Visualize:
Visualization is one of the best exercises to manifest the things you desire in life. Visualization techniques can improve over a period of time once you practice it daily. Start focussing on the things that can go right and imagine them happening. - Create a Bed-Time routine:
Bedtime routine is as essential as your morning rituals. The way you start and end your day says a lot about you and your life — pre-slumber period is to relax and unwind. There is an end number of activities that you can do before you go to sleep. Reading is one of the best options. Or you can take a warm relaxing bath. Give yourself some time before you sleep, to decompress your day. We are always under overwhelming pressure to excel everywhere. So, let bed-time be your solace and comfortable time to escape from all. - Sleep for 8 hours:
Since childhood, we are listening to the saying, “Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.” Sleep is one of the basic needs of a living being. Rest is what that keeps us alive. All the activities mentioned above will become irrelevant if you fail to get proper sleep and regain your lost energy. Be extremely protective about your sleep and enjoy your sweet slumber.
Does 13 sound a too big number to be achieved in a day?
We also think the same. That is why you have to add these activities one at a time. Some actions may sound demanding, dedicate more days to them. Once these exercises become a habit, it won’t look so complicated.
Don’t wait and kick start your life-changing journey.
Which activity will you try first?
